Key Committee Approves Critical Leadership Nomination for GSA

WASHINGTON – Today, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved the nomination of Denise Turner Roth to be Administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA). Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-Del.) made the following comments after the Committee’s business meeting. The nominee was ordered reported favorably by voice vote and now advances to the Senate floor.

“I met with Ms. Roth a few weeks ago and I was pleased with her commitments to be fully transparent with Congress and the public, and to work cooperatively with GSA’s inspector general to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in the agency,” said Sen. Johnson. “Additionally, Ms. Roth has committed to prioritizing several important aims, such as reducing the federal government’s real property footprint and expediting the move to the Common Acquisition Platform, an online portal of acquisition categories that can improve transparency, minimize duplicative contracts, and reduce costs. I look forward to her consideration by the full Senate.”

“The General Services Administration (GSA) has a crucial mission to ensure government efficiency across all federal agencies, and also to lead our efforts to find ways to do more for less,” said Sen. Carper. “By helping agencies purchases goods and services, manage property and contracts, and promote good business practices, GSA is a catalyst for both reducing expenses and improving performance across the federal government. Given its importance and the challenges it handles every day, GSA needs a permanent leader in place. Ms. Roth comes with the strong recommendation of her predecessor, Dan Tangherlini, and has demonstrated her ability to do an exceptional job in this position.
