Key Committee Unanimously Approves Beth Cobert to be OPM Director

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), ranking member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released a statement following the committee’s approval of Beth Cobert to be Director of the Office of Personnel Management. The committee approved the nomination by voice vote. It now goes to the floor to be considered by the full Senate:

“We’re very fortunate to have a nominee like Beth Cobert who is willing to continue to serve our country as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Last summer, Beth stepped in as Acting Director to help OPM navigate the aftermath of one of the worst cyber-attacks committed against our government. Under her guidance, the agency continues to address the serious consequences of these breaches, including the implications for our national security and for the millions of individuals whose sensitive information was compromised.

“Given the magnitude of these breaches and the other challenges facing OPM, permanent, Senate-confirmed leadership at the agency is imperative. I have worked closely with Beth in her role as Deputy Director for Management at the Office of Management and Budget and as Acting Director at OPM. Beth is highly-regarded from her time in both the public and private sectors. She is impressive, decisive, and well-respected on both sides of the aisle in Congress. I firmly believe that she is someone who can continue to help lead OPM through this challenging time. I urge my colleagues to move quickly on her confirmation.”
