Sen. Carper to Speak at Campus Community High School Graduation

First Graduating Class of High School to be Honored

Dover, DE – Senator Tom Carper will speak to the first graduating class of Campus Community College High School at their graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 11, 2005. The school opened in August of 2002, and this group of 19 seniors will make up the first graduating class of the high school. Campus Community High School (CCHS) is a unique charter school in that they have a partnership with Wesley College. Juniors and seniors at CCHS who are qualified can take college courses at Wesley, and Wesley students do their student teaching at Campus Community High School. ‘s Senator Carper has been a strong advocate for charter schools. The first piece of legislation he sponsored as a Senator was the “Empowering Parents Act”, a measure encouraging choice for students trapped in failing schools. It passed the Senate with broad bipartisan support and was included in the landmark education legislation signed by President Bush.
