Dover, DE – Senator Tom Carper will hold a press conference on Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Dover Air Force Base to announce the beginning of the C-5 Modernization project at the base. The media is invited to join the Senator as he gets a first-hand view of what is being done to upgrade the planes. The first phase of this process is the Avionics Modernization Program, better known as AMP. The C-5 Avionics Modernization Program upgrades C-5 cockpits with modern avionics and flight instrumentation. This includes Air Force and congressionally mandated navigation and flight safety equipment. AMP also provides the C-5’s with greater access to crowded, heavily-traveled airspace, by ensuring that the fleet is compatible with 21st Century Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) navigation and communications requirements. Senator Carper, along with the rest of the Delaware congressional delegation, secured almost $450 million for FY04 to upgrade and modernize the Air Force’s C-5 fleet. WHO: U.S. Senator Thomas R.
