Carper, Kaufman Applaud Stark Confirmation to U.S. District Court in Delaware

WASHINGTON – Today Sens. Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman (both D-Del.) released the following statement applauding the U.S. Senate confirmation of U.S. Magistrate Judge Leonard P. Stark to the seat on the United States District Court in Delaware:

"I thank my colleagues for joining me in support of the confirmation of U.S. Magistrate Judge Leonard P. Stark, to the seat on the United States District Court in Delaware," said Sen. Carper.  "As I have said before, Len’s legal acumen, his tireless work ethic, and his experience as a Federal Magistrate Judge, Assistant US Attorney, and litigator have prepared him well to fill this seat on the U.S. District Court in Delaware.  He is well qualified to serve in this position and I am confident that he will do an excellent job.  This confirmation vote is particularly welcome news because as of last month, Delaware’s District Court now has two vacancies and its capacity has been reduced to 50 percent.  I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle putting aside their differences and working together to approve several critical nominations, including that of Judge Stark.  I have also been working with the Obama Administration to secure a nominee for the remaining vacancy on the Delaware District Court and as soon as the President selects a candidate I will do my best to see that they move as quickly as possible through the confirmation process."

"Today’s confirmation of Leonard Stark is an important victory for the people of Delaware.  The unanimous vote confirms what we’ve known for some time — that Judge Stark has the experience, skill, and temperament to be an outstanding district court judge.  He will be a valuable addition to a court that is already recognized as one of the most distinguished and accomplished in the country," said Sen. Kaufman.
