Senator Carper On Nomination Of Leonard P. Stark To Us District Court In Delaware

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement responding to President Obama’s decision to nominate Leonard P. Stark for a seat on the United States District Court in Delaware:

Last year, I was pleased to provide the President with the names of three superbly qualified Delawareans for him to consider for this judicial appointment. Any one of them would have been an excellent addition and maintained the high regard in which this court is held.

“The President has made a wise choice in nominating Len Stark today. Len is a fellow University of Delaware graduate, a graduate of Yale law school, a proud Blue Hen, and a Rhodes Scholar who I believe will serve the people of Delaware and America with distinction. His legal acumen, his tireless work ethic, and his experience as a Federal Magistrate Judge, Assistant US Attorney, and litigator have prepared him well to fill the seat on the United States District Court in Delaware.

“Today, I have spoken with the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Pat Leahy, and with the Ranking Member Jeff Sessions, to alert them about this important nomination that will be referred to their committee for review and a hearing. Next, I will go to work along with Senator Ted Kaufman, who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to see that the path for Len’s nomination through the Senate and to a confirmation vote is as smooth and rapid as possible.”
