Senator Carper’s Statement on the Budget Vote
WASHINGTON, DC – The federal budget that passed the United States Senate was a victory for Republicans and Democrats like Tom Carper who want to cut taxes, pay down the debt and make sound investments in our nation’s future. Carper voted to pass the budget that provided for up to $1.2 trillion in tax cuts. “The President said a $1.6 trillion tax cut was ‘just right,’ but the Senate soundly rejected that idea today,” Carper said. “As we move forward, it is important to strike an agreement that provides tax relief, pays down our debt and improves things like education and health care. The President’s plan did not meet those goals. The passage of this budget signals that Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are willing to work to accomplish these things together.”
