Carper, Kaufman Announce Delaware National Guard’s Streamlined Emergency Communication System

Phoenix Communication System greatly enhances Delaware's emergency response capabilities

WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman (both D-Del.) announced the roll out of new communication technology by the Delaware National Guard today. The mobile Phoenix Communication System will greatly enhance the Guard’s ability to respond to emergencies in Delaware.

"We depend on the Delaware National Guard for so many duties which they execute without fail,” said U.S. Sen. Tom Carper. “It is imperative that we continue to provide them with the equipment and training they need to be able to offer that assistance.  The Phoenix system replaces antiquated equipment and will enable the Guard to maintain internet and telephone communications during any emergency, which is invaluable."

“It is critical that our National Guard is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure a quick and seamless response to an emergency,” said U.S. Sen. Ted Kaufman. “Effective communication during an emergency, as we’ve seen in catastrophes like 9/11 and Katrina, is key to saving lives and minimizing damage.”
