Carper Launches ‘Tackling Terrorism Tour’, Four Meetings Feature Experts’ Advice and Answers for Concerned Citizens

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper will kick off his “Tackling Terrorism” tour this Saturday to address local concerns in the wake of recent terrorist attacks on our nation. Joined by a panel including representatives from the National Guard, DEMA and the Division of Public Health. Carper will talk with Delawareans in each county and answer questions about the threats of terrorism and bio-terrorism at home. “Certainly we need to act swiftly, both in the Congress and at home, to set up strategies and support systems that work. The more we learn, the less fearful we can become,” Carper said. “We need a frank discussion on the risks of terrorism here at home. Delawareans are wondering what is being done to protect their families and neighbors. Armed with knowledge and support, we can face the challenges put before us.” Carper recently cosponsored the State Bioterrorism Preparedness Act with Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) aimed at helping states prepare and respond to bioterrorist attacks. Delaware’s congressional delegation continues to work to secure the remaining funding for the Delaware Electronic Reporting System (DEERS), which would make Delaware the first state able to instantly track emerging infectious diseases. Immediately following the strikes on September 11th, Carper joined his Senate colleagues in authorizing the use of military force to fight terrorism and appropriating $40 billion in emergency funds. The meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. New Castle County Saturday, November 3 10 AM to 12 Noon Boys and Girls Club 669 South Union Street, Wilmington.
