Coomunity Honors Fallen Firefighter Lincoln Quappe, Killed on Duty September 11th, Quappe was Stepson of Delaware Woman

SMYRNA, DE – Delaware community leaders gathered today to honor fallen firefighter Lincoln Quappe by planting a memorial tree in his honor at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. Killed in the line of duty on September 11th, Quappe was a member of Rescue Company No. 2 in New York. His father Charles and stepmother Heidi reside Dover. Heidi is a nurse at the hospital. “Let this tree serve as a living memorial to Lincoln Quappe. May it stand as a reflection of Lincoln’s dignity, honor and life of public service,” said Senator Tom Carper. “This hospital’s mission is to give hope, help and rescue to those in need. Lincoln’s mission in life was the same.” Quappe was the husband of Jane and the father of two young children. He was a firefighter for 16 years, a Cub Scout leader and baseball coach. Carper joined Congressman Mike Castle, Lieutenant Governor John Carney, members of the Delaware State legislature, the Mayor of Smyrna, representatives from the local police departments and the State Police, and firefighters from across Delaware for the tribute. “Our nation learned an important lesson on September 11th – that true courage is alive and well and that it lives on in our firefighters and rescue workers. Until the very end, Lincoln lived his life with courage,” Carper said. “For generations, Delawareans will look at this tree and be reminded of his bravery.”
