Delaware Delegation Supports White House Automotive Council

WASHINGTON – The Delaware congressional delegation, Sens. Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman (both D-Del.) and Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), issued the following statement in response to Vice President Joe Biden’s announcement today of an Executive Order creating the White House Council on Automotive Communities and Workers and naming Ed Montgomery as the executive director of recovery for auto communities and workers. The goal of this new inter-agency council is to help communities and workers hit hardest by auto plant closings.

“We invited Dr. Ed Montgomery to Delaware earlier this month where he pledged to work with the Obama Administration to quickly deliver assistance to Delaware’s displaced auto workers. We remain committed to working with Vice President Biden and Dr. Montgomery to ensure that Delaware is treated in the same manner as the other auto-damaged states with both financial assistance and job training they need to regain employment.”
