Sen. Carper to Help Celebrate the Holiday Season in Kent County

Wednesday, November 24, 2004 Distributing Turkeys with Food Bank of Delaware Salvation Army Bell Ringing

Dover, DE – Senator Tom Carper will spend Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in Kent County. The Senator will begin his day at Tabernacle Church in Dover, a Food Bank of Delaware distribution center, to volunteer and distribute turkeys. Over 80 baskets are expected to be distributed this year in the Dover area. The holiday baskets contain turkeys, stuffing, vegetables and dessert items. The Senator will then help ring in the holiday season by volunteering for the Salvation Army as a Christmas kettle bell ringer at the Safeway in Dover. The Salvation Army annually aids more than 4,500,000 people at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since 1891, the Christmas kettle has been used to collect public contributions to enable The Salvation Army to bring the spirit of Christmas to those who would otherwise be forgotten — to the aged and lonely, the ill, the inmates of jails and other institutions, the poor and unfortunate.
