Senator Carper to Attend Senator Wellstone’s Memorial Service Tuesday in Minnesota

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) will attend the memorial service for United States Senator Paul Wellstone tomorrow, October 29, in Minnesota. Carper issued the following statement after learning of the death of Senator Paul Wellstone: “Paul came from a more liberal part of the Democratic party than I do and he’s never shy about saying so. I didn’t know him well when I entered the Senate and I had not expected to see much of a friendship emerge. I was wrong. While we disagreed on some of the issues, I came to respect him and to like him a great deal. He had a heart as big as Minnesota. He was a humble man who took the work that we did very seriously but didn’t take himself too seriously. He had a wonderful sense of humor and we all learned so much from him. Paul was as caring and decent a human being as any with which I’ve served. He loved serving the people of Minnesota and he loved his family. He had such a great sense of humor and as great a passion for public service as any I have seen. He will be missed.”
