Carper Statement on 9-11 Commission’s Report

WASHINGTON (July 22, 2004) – Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., issued the following statement after today’s release of the 9-11 Commission’s report: “Today’s unanimous, bipartisan report by the 9-11 Commission should be a wake-up call to Congress, the White House and the intelligence community to stop bickering about who’s to blame for our intelligence failures and to start working together to better protect America from terrorist threats. We need to take a long, hard look at the report’s recommendations and then fix the problems that let the 9-11 terrorists slip through the cracks. Potential turf battles and election-year politicking won’t make that job easy. But we can’t let ‘business as usual’ in Washington prevail this time. The safety of the American people is at stake.”
