Sens. Carper, Kaufman Statement on $17.6 Million in Transportation Funding

WASHINGTON, DC – Sens. Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman (both D-Del.) released the following statement today after the White House announced that Delaware’s Department of Transportation will receive $17,643,474 for public transportation projects from the Economic Recovery Act.

“This $17.6 million will help us move away from our dependence on foreign oil and toward more fuel-efficient transportation. The investment of new federal transportation funds for Delaware means more people, at more times, in more places will be able to travel efficiently. The funds can be used to purchase buses and rail cars and to improve public transit facilities, which will help create jobs. In short, this is the kind of economic jump start we and the president envisioned when we supported the economic recovery package.”
