Wilmington, DE – Senator Tom Carper will hold a press conference on Monday, March 8, 2004, urging President Bush and congressional leaders to put the nation’s fiscal house back in order. Studies show that every minute the Bush administration spends $991,000 more than it takes in, leading to a record deficit this year of nearly $500 billion. Despite rhetoric from the administration to the contrary, those deficits are not going away anytime soon. The Senate this week will take up its annual budget resolution, and Senator Carper plans to offer an amendment that will force Congress and the Bush administration to get serious about budget discipline and to look for ways to pay for any new tax cuts or spending increases.
