Senator Carper Announces Criteria for Receiving Nominations to the United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Tom Carper announced today the criteria for receiving nominations to the United States Service Academies. Appointment to the academies requires nomination by a member of Congress. A full description of the nomination requirements is available on the Senator’s website, http://carper.senate.gov. “As a retired Naval flight officer, I have great pride in and respect for our nation’s academies and for those who serve our country,” Senator Carper said. “I commend those who strive for admission and look forward to highlighting Delaware’s finest candidates.” Application packets are now available and can be obtained by sending a letter of interest to Senator Carper’s office, 2215 Federal Building, 300 South New Street, Dover, DE 19904. The deadline for completed applications is October 15th of a student’s senior year in high school. Each packet must include: Completed application High school transcripts College Board test scores Three letters of recommendation Essay Senator Carper’s Academy Screening Committee will conduct interviews in November 2004, and complete the nomination process in December 2004.
