Carper Announces Criteria for Nominations to United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Tom Carper announced today the criteria for receiving nominations to the United States Service Academies. Appointment to the academies requires nomination by a member of Congress. A full description of nomination requirements are available on the Senator’s website, carper.senate.gov. “As a retired Naval flight officer, I take great pride in our nation’s academies and those who serve our country in the military,” Carper said. ” I commend those who strive for admission and look forward to highlighting Delaware’s finest candidates.” The criteria must be concluded by September 30th of a student’s senior year in high school and include a completed application, high school transcripts, College Board Test Scores, 3 letters of recommendation and an essay describing the applicant’s qualifications to carry out their vision of the military in the 21st century. Senator Carper’s Academy Screening Committee will conduct interviews in November, and complete the nomination process in December. Nominees to the academies will be notified by January 2002.
