Senator Tom Carper to Drive UPS Alternative Fuel Vehicle
Senator Carper to Deliver Packages on Main Street, Newark
Wilmington, DE – Senator Tom Carper will switch hats for part of the workday to deliver packages for UPS in an alternative-fuel vehicle on Main Street in Newark, Delaware. The delivery truck that the Senator will be driving is one that uses compressed natural gas (CNG) as its fuel. UPS has a fleet of over 1,800 alternative fuel vehicles in North America, including the Freight Liner CNG vehicle. CNG vehicles emit 95% lower emissions than diesel trucks, 75% less carbon monoxide, and 49% less nitrogen oxide. The Senator will be riding along with UPS Delivery Truck Driver Eugene Thompson, Jr. Mr. Thompson has been with UPS since 1983 and has worked the same route in Newark for 21 years. Senator Carper has been a champion of alternative-fuel products throughout his career, and he recently voted for a package of energy-related tax incentives that would make it easier to bring clean-energy products to market.
