Carper Statement on Roberts’ Intelligence Reform Proposal

WASHINGTON (August 23, 2004) – Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., issued the following statement regarding the outlines of intelligence reform legislation proposed yesterday by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan. Carper is a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee, which has been charged with producing legislation to respond to the intelligence reform recommendations issued recently by the bipartisan 9-11 Commission. “As chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Senator Roberts has a great deal of experience in matters of national security and intelligence. I welcome his input in this process, and I look forward to reviewing the details of his proposal. I feel strongly that whatever legislation we produce in the Senate is done so with a sense of urgency and in a bipartisan fashion, as was the case with the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission.”
