Carper to Talk About Health and Wellness in Wilmington Tomorrow

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper will be visiting two local health centers in Wilmington tomorrow to talk with doctors, nurses, patients and parents about health issues and safety concerns. Carper will visit the Westside Community Health Center and the Henrietta Medical Center in Wilmington. “These doctors and nurses are on the frontline of providing healthcare,” Carper said. “I look forward to hearing some of their best practices and finding out what works.” The Westside Health Center just received over $500,000 in federal funding to expand its patient services. “By providing access to basic health services, health centers such as these save the state of Delaware and the nation’s health care system billions of dollars annually,” Carper said. In late July, Senator Tom Carper voted to create a prescription drug benefit for the nation’s seniors. Carper joined 51 Senators in supporting the Graham-Miller prescription drug benefit to help seniors meet the ever-increasing challenge of affording their prescription medicines. As Governor, Tom Carper signed into law the “Pill Bill,” which provides assistance for seniors earning up to 200 percent of poverty. The Graham proposal he supported built on that effort.
