Carper Responses to State of the Union

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) delivered the following response to President Bush’s State of the Union address: “President Bush has shown great resolve in leading our war abroad, but we still have real obstacles to overcome here at home. We must work together to take the next steps in welfare reform, enact a national energy policy and pass a real prescription drug benefit for seniors,” Carper said. “The President gave a great speech tonight, but our fiscal reality means we face tough financial choices ahead. The State of the Union is traditionally a chance to promise all things to all people, but the budget is when you find out what you can actually afford to do.” Carper watched the speech from his Wilmington home with his two sons, the youngest of which was ill.
