Sen. Carper’s Statement on Valero’s Decision to Sell its Delaware City Refinery

WASHINGTON –Today Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement reacting to
Valero’s announcement that it is selling its Delaware City Refinery:

“As Delawareans work to recover from a weak economy the past few years, perhaps last thing we wanted to face was the closure of the Delaware City Refinery and the loss of hundreds of skilled jobs that would follow.  Today’s announcement that PBF Energy has agreed to acquire the refinery from Valero comes as welcome news for the families of those workers who have been given a second chance at a time when they could really use one.   I congratulate Governor Markell and his team for their hard work to make today’s announcement possible.  They left no stone unturned in this effort and it was a pleasure working with them to reach today.

“I welcome PBF Energy to Delaware and am hopeful that their commitment to invest in the refinery will ensure that the refinery is both a safe workplace and a good neighbor in the years to come.”
