Phillip C. Showell Elementary School Receives Prestigious No Child Left Behind- Blue Ribbon Schools Award

Selbyville, DE – Phillip C. Showell Elementary School has been selected to receive the “No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Award” from the U.S. Department of Education, Senator Tom Carper announced today. This national award honors public and private K through 12 schools that are either academically superior in their state or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. “This is a great honor for Phillip C. Showell Elementary School,” said Senator Carper. “I congratulate the students, teachers, administrators and parents of Phillip C. Showell on this prestigious distinction. As one of only 215 elementary and secondary schools to be presented this award, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School is a class act.” The program requires that schools meet one of the two assessment criteria: It recognizes schools that have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance in accordance with state assessment systems; and it rewards schools that score in the top ten percent on state assessments.
