Sen. Carper: Jack Tarburton Great Choice As USDA State Director

WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement in response to the federal appointment today of Mr. John F. (Jack) Tarburton of Milford, Del., as the State of Delaware Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA):
 
"After consulting with the governor and the other members of our Delaware delegation, I was happy to offer my recommendation for Jack’s appointment. His experience and knowledge in this the USDA arena is unmatched and made him the perfect candidate to fill this important federal position.
 
"Jack served the State of Delaware as Secretary of Agriculture during my time as governor, and as a specialist in economic development for Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Jack has been on the forefront of agriculture, government, and economic and community development for more than four decades.
 
"From his experience as a potato and grain farmer, his role as president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, his consulting work with top poultry and biotechnology companies in the country, and the respect he has gained through all of those roles, I am more than confident that Jack is up for the challenges that lie ahead. I support Jack and I look forward to working closely with him in the months and years ahead."
