Sen. Carper Accepting Student Applications for U.S. Service Academy Nominations

WILMINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) is now accepting applications for U.S. service academy nominations from Delaware students. Sen. Carper encourages those interested in attending the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy or U.S. Military Academy to apply for a nomination through his office.

“As a former Naval Flight Officer and retired U.S. Navy Captain, I appreciate how the benefits of military and public service shape one’s future,” said Sen. Carper. “The academies seek future leaders who possess the ‘whole person’ concept, which includes having good moral character, a commendable academic record, medical and physical fitness, the desire to serve and the motivation to lead. I encourage Delawareans who believe they fit this mold to apply to attend a service academy after graduation.”

To be considered for a congressional nomination, students must meet all of the general requirements of their academy of choice and submit an online application, along with supporting documents, to Sen. Carper’s office by Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. Students can access the online application by visiting Sen. Carper’s Web site at http://carper.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/service-academy-nominations.

For more information regarding the application process, please contact Lori James, Kent County Director, at (302) 674-3308 or academy@carper.senate.gov.
