Sen. Carper Attends Groundbreaking at Dover Air Force Base Chapel Center

The Chapel Center will provide a place for families of all religious backgrounds to worship.

DOVER, Del. – Today, Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons (both D-Del.) joined Dover Air Force Base officials at the groundbreaking of the Chapel Center. This project will provide a 300-seat chapel center where base personnel and their families can worship, receive counseling services and religious education.

“This new chapel center will give Dover Air Force Base something that it sorely lacks at this moment – a place of worship for the airmen and women at Dover as well as a sanctuary for the families of the dignified transfers that are here to welcome home their loved ones,” said Sen. Carper.

In Fiscal Year 2010, the Delaware delegation secured $7.5 million in funding to construct the center. The estimated completion date for the project is May 2012.
