Sen. Carper Congratulates Bob Walls on Farm Services Agency Director Appointment

Sen. Carper recommended the Milford, Del. native to President Obama

WILMINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) congratulated Robert “Bob” E. Walls of Milford, Del., who was recently appointed Farm Services Agency (FSA) Director for Delaware for the United States Department of Agriculture. Sen. Carper recommended this appointment to President Obama in December 2011.

“Bob Walls is an experienced leader whose background in the agriculture community, along with his work in state government, allows him to understand the challenges of this position,” said Sen. Carper. “He has experience working on legislation that supported the agriculture and small business communities, as well as other issues including labor and economic development. His upstanding reputation and proven leadership makes him a fine choice for Delaware’s FSA director.”

A native Delawarean, Walls has served the State of Delaware as an elected public official, a farmer and a businessman. He worked on his family’s farm until he was hired as Vice President of Sales in the Agriculture Division of O.A. Newton & Son in Bridgeville, Del. He worked there until 1996, when he opened Walls Irrigation, Inc. His public service includes holding office for four years as Representative for Delaware’s 33rd District, serving as chair of the House Agriculture Committee and serving on the bipartisan House Small Business Caucus.

FSA provides Delaware farmers with a safety net through the administration of farm commodity programs. FSA’s responsibilities include farm programs, farm loans, commodity operations, and management and state operations. In this new position, Walls will oversee Delaware’s FSA department.
