Sen. Carper Launches New Facebook Timeline

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) continued his efforts to utilize social media to better serve his constituents by launching a new Facebook Timeline page. Facebook’s new Timeline format provides more opportunities for Delawareans who have “liked” Sen. Carper’s page to interact with Sen. Carper, learn more about his biography and career achievements, and stay connected with his current work for the First State. His Timeline can be viewed here: http://www.facebook.com/tomcarper.

“Social media outlets like Facebook, as well as my ‘online office’ – carper.senate.gov – help me better communicate with people, businesses and organizations across the First State,” said Sen. Carper. “The launch of my Facebook Timeline enhances my ability to share important information with Delawareans about the work I’m doing on their behalf in Delaware and in Washington, D.C. My new Timeline will allow me to better use Facebook as a social hub where I can stay in touch with people from all across Delaware by highlighting photos, sharing news stories and events, and linking to unique features on my website – while providing an open forum for ideas and discussion.”

The new format of Sen. Carper’s Facebook page includes innovative features, like “milestones” highlighting Sen. Carper’s biography and career; more interactive post types for important news and announcements; “apps” linking users to Sen. Carper’s YouTube and Flickr content; and a new messaging feature that allows constituents to directly contact Sen. Carper’s staff.

Another notable addition to the Timeline format is the cover photo – a large banner photo at the top of Sen. Carper’s profile. This week, Sen. Carper invited Delawareans to submit their favorite, original photographs of Delaware scenery as part of a contest to select his new Facebook cover photo. After reviewing several dozen submissions of beautiful landscape photos from across the First State, a photo of Lewes, Delaware, submitted by Delawarean Frank Baker was chosen and will appear as Sen. Carper’s new Facebook cover photo.

Sen. Carper is committed to communicating with constituents by staying active on a variety of social networking platforms, including Twitter, Flickr and YouTube, in addition to Facebook.
