Sen. Carper Statement on Fire at Dover’s Kirby & Holloway Family Restaurant

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement on the fire that destroyed the Kirby & Holloway Family Restaurant in Dover early Sunday morning.

“The first time I ever visited Kirby & Holloway was when I was running for state treasurer. I went around talking to patrons and I had some food myself and thought, ‘I think I’ll come back here someday.’ I’ve been there many times since as treasurer, congressman, governor and senator and always had a great time.

“The Gray family hosted me at Kirby & Holloway as I celebrated my first Senate victory and thanked my supporters; it was a very special day. The Grays are known to be strong Democrats, but whether you were a Democrat, Republican, from the Tea Party or any party, you were welcomed warmly and served a great meal.

“This is a great loss not just for Dover but for our whole state. Fortunately, we know they’ll come back stronger than ever and we will be there to celebrate.”
