Sen. Carper Statement on Re-Nomination of Allison Macfarlane as Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety, issued a statement following the re-nomination of Dr. Allison Macfarlane as Chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):

“Allison Macfarlane has done a great job as NRC Chair over the past year. The Commission needs strong, steady leadership, and Dr. Macfarlane provides it, which makes her an easy choice for re-nomination. This is a critical time for the NRC, as it oversees the construction of our country’s first new nuclear reactors in decades and as we continue to implement measures to shore up the security of our nuclear plants in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster. We only have three short months until her term expires, and now is not the time to have a seat empty on the NRC. That’s why we shouldn’t leave this position in question for long, so I look forward to the Senate quickly re-confirming her.”
