Sen. Carper Statement on the Death of Moammar Gadhafi

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del) issued the following statement regarding the death of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi:

“This is the beginning of a new chapter for the people of Libya. For months, the Libyan people have struggled against this ruthless dictator and his oppressive regime, and fought bravely for their freedom. Today, Libya’s revolutionary forces have successfully brought down this violent dictator, who orchestrated atrocities against his own people and supported terrorism against others, including Americans. Our thoughts are with those victims and their families today, and I hope that the actions by Libyan forces delivered some justice to those who have suffered. It is my hope that this will be a turning point that will allow the Libyans to finally be able to move on from the oppression of the Gadhafi regime and toward a more peaceful and democratic existence, bettering the entire worldwide community in the process. As Libyans continue the challenging work of rebuilding their lives and building a new government, I hope that NATO, the United States and our other allies will be able to wind down and soon conclude our military support mission there.”
