Sen. Carper Vows Continued Work with Gina McCarthy
WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the EPW Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Gina McCarthy as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a bipartisan vote of 59-40:
“Today, the Senate took action to confirm a highly-qualified, pragmatic nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. Gina McCarthy’s bipartisan record of service underscores what I’ve known for years: that she is and always has been a consensus choice for EPA Administrator. As chairman of the clean air subcommittee, I’ve worked closely with Gina to reduce air pollution and to guarantee that we have both a clean environment and a strong economy. We still have work to do – especially involving critical protections needed to stem the tide of climate change. Part of this work involves implementing the President’s climate plan, which he announced about a month ago and which Gina will help spearhead. Another part is making sure those of us in Congress work constructively with Gina to promulgate regulations that provide certainty and predictability for American businesses. I’m confident Gina will be a consensus-driven, inclusive and transparent leader for the EPA during this critical time, and I’m grateful my colleagues have given her this strong vote of support.”
