Senator Carper Highlights Launch of Online Veterans Employment Center

WASHINGTON- Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a veteran and the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, highlighted a new website that will provide veterans with critical information to help them find jobs. The new tool is a part of First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden’s Joining Forces Initiative.  The tool connects service members and their families with employers and offers resources to help service members translate military skills into the civilian workforce.

“We have a moral obligation to ensure that those who have sacrificed for our country have access to the resources needed to find gainful employment,” Sen. Carper said. “Our troops possess the proven leadership and skills that employers are seeking and this tool will help service members and their families access valuable career opportunities and advice.  With the Veterans Employment Center, service members now have a one-stop site where they can learn how to better market their unique qualifications and help find a rewarding career as they transition back to civilian life.”

The Veterans Employment Center offers service members and their spouses an integrated and simplified set of resources, including a resume-builder and military skills translator, to help them connect with employers in both the public and private sectors.  A joint effort by the Joining Forces initiative, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Departments of Defense, Labor, and Education, the Veterans Employment Center is the first interagency tool that offers comprehensive, detailed career and training resources to service members and their families.
