Senator Carper’s Statement on Stockholder Approval of Dow and DuPont Merger

WILMINGTON, Del. – U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) issued the following statement today following the announcement that Dow and DuPont stockholders approved a merger of the companies:

“Today’s announcement that stockholders have approved the merger between Dow and DuPont is another step toward understanding the impact that this transition will continue to have on Delaware. Governor Markell, along with the active support of our congressional delegation, provided exemplary leadership in finding the opportunities that lie in this adversity: the specialty products and agriculture headquarters will locate here, and a growing number of the DuPont scientists, researchers and engineers who have been let go, as well as those who may be let go in the coming months, have the opportunity to start up and grow businesses of their own in Delaware. This includes ensuring they have access to the intellectual property that many of them helped to create, as well as access to capital and lab space to make sure these endeavors come to fruition.

“We must continue to do what we do best – pull together and make sure we do not languish in disappointment, but seize the opportunities here. Along with the Governor, our delegation and the many people working behind the scenes, I will continue to look for ways to create a nurturing environment for the two DowDuPont businesses that will be headquartered in Delaware and the start ups that will take root and grow here.”
