Senator Carper Statement on Iran’s Unprecedented Attack Against Israel

Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), released the following statement after Iran’s unprecedented attack against Israel on April 13, 2024:

“Iran’s unprecedented and disproportional attack against Israel yesterday – which included hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles – was gravely concerning. Fortunately, the attack was met with an almost unbelievable and successful coordinated defense mounted by the U.S. and Israeli military forces. I know from my years of service in the United States Navy, both in a hot war in Southeast Asia and in a Cold War for decades after that, successfully defending an attack of this nature and of this magnitude is nothing short of a miracle. I’m proud of, and deeply grateful for, the skilled U.S. servicemembers who played a significant role in standing up this remarkable defense.

“I also want to commend our commander-in-chief for his extraordinary leadership over the past week and for convening the G7 today to pursue a diplomatic response to Iran’s attack while preventing a wider, more deadly conflict. Prime Minister Netanyahu has been encouraged by many in this country and around the world to accept the advice given to him by President Biden: take the win, do not retaliate further against Iran at this time.

“With that said, it is now more important than ever for the U.S. House of Representatives to reconvene tomorrow and take up the critical national security bill which we passed in the Senate by a wide bipartisan vote of 70-29 on February 13. Doing so will make clear to the rest of the world that we stand in support of our allies and partners both now and for years to come.”
