Senator Carper Statement on New Cyber Executive Order
WASHINGTON — Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following reaction to President Obama’s Executive Order, which authorizes the Departments of Treasury to impose sanctions on entities that engage in cyber attacks that result in a significant threat to the national security, foreign policy, or economic health or financial stability of the United States. Click here for more information on the Executive Order:
“Almost every day, we hear about criminals and nation states launching cyber attacks that undermine our national and economic security, or could even physically harm Americans. Many of them are very good at it, and they continue to grow more sophisticated. Congress, the Administration, law enforcement, industry partners, and other stakeholders must work together to stay a step ahead of the threat and do all we can to ensure our economic stability and the security and safety of our citizens. I believe this latest action on sanctions is a step in the right direction, and I commend President Obama for his steadfast attention and actions on this pressing issue. I look forward to learning more about the Executive Order and its implementation.”
