Senator Carper Statement on Senate Passage of Bill to Protect U.S. National Security

Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement after the Senate voted to protect U.S. national security by providing aid to our allies and partners around the world, including Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, among other nations. The Senate passed the funding package by a bipartisan vote of 79–18.

“Today, for the second time, the U.S. Senate approved a national security aid package that will provide desperately needed support to our allies and partners while protecting U.S. interests at home and abroad.

“With this bipartisan vote, we are enabling nations like Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, to defend themselves against regional aggressors. We are assisting with critical humanitarian relief efforts around the world, including in Gaza. And most importantly, we are sending a clear message to some of our most dangerous adversaries that they have no place threatening sovereign nations and democracy at large.

“While passage of this legislation was long overdue, in the end, Democrats and Republicans were able to work together to protect American families and strengthen our own national security. The United States will always defend democracy, and today, we finally made good on that promise.”
