Press Releases

WASHINGTON -- Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement today in response to the most recent letter from Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Director James Comey stating that, after a review of additional emails, it is standing by its decision made in July regarding its investigation into Secretary Clinton's emails.

“Today's announcement from the FBI simply reaffirms what the agency made clear in July – that no further action is warranted in this case. After reviewing newly obtained emails over the past week, the FBI has once again confirmed what we already knew. The facts are clear, and Director Comey's latest letter should put this matter to rest once and for all. Just days before a national election, we can now turn our attention to the critical issues facing our country rather than engaging in unwarranted and irresponsible speculation on a matter that has been thoroughly reviewed and resolved.‎

“While I am grateful to the men and women of the FBI for all the work of the past nine days, which led to the letter sent by Director Comey today, this unprecedented episode should serve as a reminder to all of us that we must remain vigilant to ensure that no agency is allowed to improperly influence our elections – not this year and not any year in the future.”
