Carper: President Biden’s Budget Proposal Builds on Historic Progress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, today released the following statement on President Biden’s fiscal year 2024 budget proposal:

“In the two years since President Biden took office, our country has made historic economic progress, with 12 million jobs created and an unemployment rate at its lowest level in 50 years. The deficit has fallen by $1.7 trillion and continues to fall thanks to investments in the Inflation Reduction Act. Seniors are now better able to afford their prescription drugs, and we are investing in our nation’s infrastructure in a way that combats climate change and leaves no community behind.

“Today, President Biden laid out a budget proposal that builds on that historic progress. His plan will continue to ease the burdens of our hardworking families, including lowering health care costs, while cutting the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over the next 10 years. And it does so by rooting out waste and fraud, and making sure everyone pays their fair share.

“I applaud President Biden’s roadmap that leaves no one behind. Now, it’s up to Congress to work together with the administration to deliver for the American people.”
