Senator Carper Statement on IRS Commissioner

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Daniel “Danny” Werfel as Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. President Biden nominated Werfel in November 2022 and Werfel’s nomination passed through the Senate Finance Committee with overwhelming bipartisan support.

“Throughout his distinguished career in public service under both Democratic and Republican administrations, Danny has worked tirelessly to make sure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. He has been a lifelong champion for good government, and has become known as the expert that people turn to for help in navigating the many challenges we face in this government and country of ours.

“As the Senate-confirmed Commissioner of the IRS, Danny will be able to advance the policy objectives of the Inflation Reduction Act, including providing best-in-class customer service to American taxpayers, delivering on historic clean energy tax credits to meet our climate objectives, and ensuring that the wealthiest individuals and corporations pay their fair share of taxes.  

“Danny has proven time and again that he has the management experience and background necessary to tackle this mission head-on and succeed. In fact, Danny has done this job before, so he can hit the ground running on day one bringing the necessary skills to improve the IRS.”
