Medicare Prescription Drug Discount Card Information Sessions Change of Command Ceremonies at DAFB Visit Future Site of Proposed Bio-diesel Production Facility in Clayton

Dover, DE – Senator Carper will spend Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Kent County. The Senator is kicking off a statewide tour educating senior citizens about the new Medicare-Approved Prescription Drug Discount Card. On Thursday, the Senator will speak at the Mamie Warren Senior Center in Smyrna. The discount card became available on May 1, 2004, and goes into effect on June 1, 2004. Senator Carper will then attend a change-of-command ceremony at Dover Air Force Base. Col. Robert King will take command of the 436th Mission Support Group from Col. Charles Smiley during the ceremony. The 436th Mission Support Group provides Dover Air Force Base with complete infrastructure support including logistical readiness, civil engineering, emergency services and security. The Senator will also visit the future site of a proposed bio-diesel production facility in Clayton. Marty Ross, head of Mid-Atlantic Bio-diesel, will meet with Senator Carper and Clayton Mayor Robert Berghorn to talk about the economic and environmental benefits this plant could have on Delmarva. Bio-diesel is safe, biodegradable and reduces serious air pollutants such as soot, carbon monoxide and air toxins. Senator Carper supports this bio-diesel plant because he believes that at a time when our country imports almost 60 percent of the oil we use, some of it from nations hostile to our own, we can take oil from Delmarva soybeans, mix it with traditional diesel fuel, and create fuel for more environmentally-friendly vehicles. Senator Carper says it’s a win-win situation for our local economy and the environment.
