Senator Carper to Read to Claymont Children, Adds His Voice to Read Across America Celebration

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper will deliver a brief lesson in the democratic process and read to children at Maple Lane elementary school in Claymont today. Carper will join elected officials, teachers, parents and children throughout the country to celebrate “Read Across America,” on this, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. “Reading is the key to understanding and the foundation for success in school,” Carper said. “My hope is that children will learn that reading can be more than a homework assignment. Reading is the doorway to a world of unlimited possibilities.” Carper will encourage the children to vote on which book they would like to be read. The Senator and the third-graders will then spend some time talking about voting.
