Senator Carper Invites Delaware High School Students to U.S. Service Academy Information Night

WILMINGTON, DE – Delaware high school students with dreams of attending the nation’s elite service academies after graduation will have an opportunity to talk with representatives in person at an Academy Information Night being sponsored by Senator Tom Carper. “Our soldiers in Afghanistan are living up to the legacy of courage set by the veterans who came before them. The next generation of American military heroes could be right here in Delaware,” said Carper, who was the mission commander of a P-3 aircraft in Southeast Asia during Vietnam and the Cold War. “They will be the future leaders in the fight to protect our nation’s freedom.” The session will allow students from all over the state, joined by their parents and school advisors, to gather advice on gaining an edge in the competitive application process. Senator Carper’s opening remarks will be followed by breakout sessions and personal visits with Academy and ROTC representatives. Each year, members of the United States Congress are charged with nominating top candidates from their home state, ensuring the best and the brightest are considered for admission to the nation’s leading military academies. The process begins when high school students are in the spring their junior year.
