Top Urban League Official Focuses on Wilmington Children

WILMINGTON, DE – Senator Tom Carper will meet with National Urban League President Hugh Price Saturday afternoon to talk about the impact federal education legislation will have on Delaware communities. Joined by community leaders and activists, the dialogue will focus on closing the achievement gap seen both locally and nationally. “I join Mr. Price and the Urban League in their commitment to investment in our public schools and to closing the achievement gap. We must level the playing field, and focus on the local implications of federal mandates,” Carper said. “Delaware is at the forefront of a nationwide movement for change. This conversation will facilitate that movement.” The Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League will be celebrating its second year Saturday, and has become one of Delaware’s leading advocates on minority and urban issues.
