Sen. Carper Reacts To Senator Specter Switching Parties

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tom Carper, a Democrat from the neighboring state of Delaware, issued the following statement today after news that Republican Sen. Arlen Specter from Pennsylvania will switch political parties:

“I know any number of people have urged Senator Specter to take this action, including our Vice President, members of our Democratic caucus, and me.

“Having said that, I am still surprised he has taken this step. It’s a big one and I’m sure he has done a lot of soul searching to get to this place.”
