Red Cross Emergency Relief Fund Is Empty

WASHINGTON, DC (September 17, 2003) – Senator Tom Carper, D-DE, has taped a Public Service Announcement today asking Delawareans for donations for the American Red Crossâ?? Emergency Relief Fund. This fund, used by the American Red Cross to aid victims of disasters, such as hurricanes and floods, is empty. The agency’s Disaster Relief Fund provides assistance for food, clothing, shelter and replacement of medications during fires, floods, storms and other catastrophes. The fund also is used to help displaced victims with replacement of household goods. Effective immediately, the agency’s emergency care will be limited to basic needs. They will not be able to provide the additional financial assistance on a case-by-case basis.
