Sen. Carper Statement on Delaware Secretary of Education Lowery’s Departure

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement regarding Delaware Secretary of Education Lillian Lowery’s departure and her new role as Maryland’s State Superintendent of Education:

“Jobs in the 21st century will go to the states and nations that create a world-class workforce. Thanks in no small part to Dr. Lillian Lowery’s extraordinary leadership skills, Delaware has become one of those states and, in fact, a leader in the nation. Her warmth, her love for kids, her ability to get people to work together, and her vision for raising student achievement set her apart from just about every other education leader in the country. A little over three years ago, Governor Jack Markell assembled a talented, hardworking leadership team that has served him and Delaware well. There’s no brighter light on that team than Dr. Lowery. I am happy for her to have this opportunity but we sure will miss her here.”
