Sen. Carper Statement on Payroll Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement on the Tax Relief, Unemployment Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, which took effect Jan. 1 and started showing up in paychecks today:

“This year, many Delawareans are already seeing bigger paychecks, thanks to the Tax Relief, Unemployment Reauthorization and Job Creation Act, passed in the final weeks of 2010. Since Jan. 1, 2011, hundreds of thousands of hard working Delawareans have more money in their pockets as a direct result of the payroll tax cuts.

“While the overall tax agreement is not the one I wanted, this legislation did prevent tax rates from going up on most Delawareans. By implementing this cut in payroll taxes and other critically-needed provisions, we will help struggling middle-class families stay afloat in our still-recovering economy, while additionally nurturing continued economic growth.”
