Carper on the President’s Speech to Congress: ‘He had a chance to inspire, to lift us as a nation, and he did.’

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Tom Carper had the following reaction to President George W. Bush’s address to Congress this evening: “The President had the chance to lift our nation’s spirits, and tonight he did. As a nation we have been through a Civil War, a Great Depression, two World Wars and the assassination of some of our great leaders. We rebounded from all of that and we will rebound from this tragedy. The President needed to be strong and inspiring, and I think he was,” Carper said. “I have never seen our nation more unified and more committed to a common cause than we are right now.”
